The mumbai adventures : day 3

After a good nights sleep we were forced to get up at 6 in the morning and not because we had to get somewhere reaaly early or see the sun rise or catch a flight. It was because we had to take bath and finish early morning activites before 7. wondering why? because the city receives water for only 1 hour in the morning.the hosing society does not have a tank provision for the whole apartment but each flat has its own separate ank and tank is obviously not big enough for 9 people to do all the things with limited supply ,so get up early and finish water consuming activities by then... something like make hay when the sun shines... this is take bath when water comes!!I had bath and hit the bed again to catch some pending sleep. We had early homely lunch by 12 and then proceeded to Ulhasnagar, a nearby town which is also famous as USA(Ulhasnagar Scindhi Association) due to the predominant scindhi population . this town is famous for shopping from clothes to imported stuff, leather articles, dry fruits and what not.but it is also famous for its chat stalls .The next 4 hours were spent shopping and buying some real good handy stuff.we then returnedto our base and after getting fresh we went to anubhav a bar and restaurant for dinner. and not so surprisingly the restaurant was run by a shetty and my tulu came in handy and we got great service.Chinese bhel was a lip smacking discovery .It was made of fried noodles with chilly sauce, vinegar, tomato sauce and garlic sauce all mixed in relative proportions to leave your taste buds craving for more..the other stuff we ate aws regular biryani, tandoori etc...and then we got back and called it a day..

The mumbai adventures : day 2

After a good nights sleep i got up early as we had to attend the wedding of my relative and by 630 we were alll dressed up and were waiting for the bus that was chartered to pick us up. It did come on time anhd we began hour 45 minute long journey to the venue. The same distance would have taken us 2 hours during peak time. What fascinated me about the roads of mumbai were the use of interlock tiles which are used primarily for footpaths and in the compound premises; majority of the roads had these in place and were functioning very well but later i found out they were custom made heavy duty tiles and not the ones which we used for our backyard. once we reached the mutt at wadala , there was this all familiar sight of people settled in footpaths with concrete walled house made for themselves and surprisingly enough every 10*7 feet house had a color tv with cable connection, electrical meter, fan, most had refrigerators, some even had air conditioner!!!only thing they lacked was a place to wash stuff for which they resort to the sides of the roads and toilets for which they find some bushes nearby or do it very early in the morning before sun rises and exposes them. terrible the way they are living but believe me they have no complaints or regrets about how they are living! supposedly the 'mumbai spirit'.we then decided to check out Dadar market and we had a tough time cos it was december 6 and apparently it wa the death anniversary of father of constitution dr.B.R.Ambedkar and his samadhi happens to be in dadar! we had the world famous Batata vada at Shri Krishna and it was worth its fame. we then returned back to the hall.marriage got over and a grand buffet lunch was served which was really lip smacking and finger licking good(as good as kfc) . from there we had to go to kal;yan in thana district for which we hired a innova and took to the highway in less than a hour and a half we reached our destination passing through 4 tolls which cost 150 bucks !! but no regrets because the roads were worth the toll. after refreshing we proceeded to see the birla temple and ganapati temple at titwala. both were nice one was more architectural in appeal and latter more spiritual.we came back home and had homely dinner and hit the beds.

The mumbai adventure- day 1

Of the innumerable must see tourist places in the country if I had not yet gone to were kolkata and mumbai. but not anymore, mumbai is explored. so that leaves me with only one more holiday to cover INDIA and I am proud of it. the next few posts will trace my journey. on 5th dec which could safely be called as one of the relatively(this word means a lot) cooler mornings in mangalore, I got up early and thats by 7 o clock not because i had a early flight. my flight was at 1115 but still the excitement of visiting the financial capital of the country, the city that never sleeps, dream city and what not did not allow my senses to take rest for long and then i finally succumbed to it and got my quintal weighing body out of bed and was ready to catch the flight by 830. my cab arrrived on timeat 930 and was at the airport by 1015.check in was smooth and i rested in the crampy and suffocating lounge at the mlore airport. it definitely needs some improvement.the worst part is walking in the hot sun for half a km is punishment of sorts ,they could do good with a bus or two(every airport has 1!!!)air hostesses were cute though and as hot as the weather outside.the artificial smile on their faces could not be more deceptive i thought.i quietly settled onto my seat controlling my emotions and snapping my fantasies short.hit by recession (flight was running full though) airlines decided not to offer anything other than a bottle of water free. i had to shell out 170 bucks for a cold stale chicken croissant, a good 6cm*6cm piece of plum cake and a 200 ml carton of froti and thats called as a non veg meal!!! not even a terminally ill patient would have a low appetite sop that u could call it a meal!!! but they do; and i found out why people say prices have reached skies! 170 for 25 rs stuff thats 6.75 timesu are charging and they say they are hit by recession! what the.....anyways i should ve been smarter not to have been tempted to try it but then temptation got the better out of me and i gave in.
the flight landed at mumbai at 1220 and i was out by 1250. as i was attending a weddibng they had sent a cab for me and i got into it and proceeded towards gorai in the suburban mumbai. I had my first taste of mumbai and its traffic, buildings and people. it took 2 and half hours to reach the destination twice the time i took to travel from mlore to mumbai! after lunch and refreshing , we (me and family) took cabs and went to ISKCON at juhu and then to juhu chowpatty beach, had some disgusting chat. it was supposed to be famous but i would give it less than 1 on 10.it sucked. but what i ate next cheered me up, it was the famous ice gola in which the crush ice and put it in a glass and top with flavours of your choice so you could suck the juice and dip again and suck the juice again till all the ice melted.it was good and i sucked for a change not the food!!! we then went to borivili from there in search of authentic gujrati meal and I was not disappointed. It was nice rotis soft, chutney tangy, sabu vada crispy, dal and subzi tasty but sweet(u cannot complain about food being sweet when u eat gujrati meal apparently) . all in all a day with lot of activities ended with a good meal. we went back to gorai picked our luggage and went to borivili were arrangements for our stay was made and as soon as I got there i obliged to the bed and slept off to glory....

NOTHING TASTES BETTER THAN SUCCESS AFTER HARD WORK

It was just another lazy sunday morning(lazy because u have got nothing to push u out of bed) and as usual i did not find anything motivating about the masala dosa my mom had prepared. Its not that it is not prepared well but just that i hate dosas and more so when it has a stuffing of onions and unhealthy potatoes topped with lots of turmeric and mustard!!! this recipe might be good enough to get 100 million south indians off their beds but 100 kgs of me would not budge to this;no ways and so i just spent the next 37 odd minutes on the bed fiddling with my cell and checking out some international news on the mangalore edition of THE HINDU as i had already finished rest of the paper and all that was left was international news.bowel movements start exactly when u reach the crunch of the editorial and then all i could do was to rush to the loo. once out of bed it takes less than 17 minutes to get fresh for the day and i was back to bed but this time not to sleep just relax. with tv switched on and i started what i am best at when it comes to television, surfing and surfing i did with a gap of not more than 3 seconds between channels i surfed through all the available 102 channels twice in less than 10 minutes and still i found nothing interesting on it and when that happens i put on NDTV GOOD TIMES at least good times they promise in the name!!tv was on and i got busy solving su-do-ku .i was left with 4 boxes to fill when one of the programs i like chakle india with chef aditya bal started. the dish on show was `kacchi murg ki dum biryani` and i casually followed the recipe.and being a gastronaut of the highest order that i am the preparation was heavenly and the appearance mouth watering.and as the show ended i decided i was going to prepare the same for everyone at home today, by everyone i mean 3 of us,me and my parents. at 1100 i went out shopping some essential requirements which included basmati rice, chicken, curd and some spices. i was back by 1130 and got to preparing my tryst with cooking something major for the first time in my 25 years of purposeful living.i had a realisation halfway through the cooking that 1) its not rocket science;not that tough afterall and 2) its not a cakewalk either;not all that easy too!!.over next 1hr 20 minutes i did things as per chefs instructions .table was arranged and plates placed and fingers crossed i took the cooker to the table and with eager eyes of my parents watching i opened the lid and the aroma of the finely cooked spices and rich texture of the rice reassured me and i proceeded with more confidence and served . all of us kept eating for the next 15 minutes without talking much . and once we were done with it parents appreciated the preparation and i felt great. its not that i ve not eaten better biryanis in my life but just the fact that when something results from your own efforts its just a touch better,at least feels better.

idea behind this post: success after hard work tastes better, so work hard ,succeed...

TRUE FRIENDSHIP IS A MYTH

I ve heard right throughout my life people say` oh thats true friendship, thats real friendship` etc etc; and i am still searching for the same. not that i ve not had friends in my life ,had lots of them(as a matter of fact my dad being in a transferable job i ve been in more cities and towns during days of my education,no of schools ) and made a lot of friends during the same journey. but what i failed to understand till date is what is so TRUE or REAL about some friendships??? as a friend i ve done everything an ideal friend should; be it having fun with friends or being with them in their toughest times or helping them when they needed someone or scolding them when they did something wrong and all other things which a person should do to be the IDEAL FRIEND. and at the end of it all what was left of me was a dissapointed individual. I might appear to be a freakish cribbing idiot when i say this but thats what happens when a person who once upon a time was considered by everyone else plus you as your closest and truest friend does not invite you to his wedding or when the friend who used to discuss all her good, bad and ugly things and whom u consider a true friend and more than a friend too suddenly stops doing that... it hurts; more so when there s a third person enquiring why you did not attend your true friends wedding!!! or hows the girl now? are u in contact? so

that brings me back to square one: my quest for TRUE FRIENDSHIP still continues.

idea behind this post: TRUE FRIENDSHIP IS A MYTH...non existent .. its just a complex manipulative and selfish relation between two individuals

SECULARISM-the real fiction or the false truth

Ever taken a moment off, sat back and pondered to understand the real meaning of the word SECULARISM? i m sure , not. hmmm i did and this post is what i thought and i had to put this in words and let you guys read my views.
SECULARISM for most political parties but one is being pro minority and for the one left out there is no such word in their dictionary according to others. but i wonder why!!! being pro minority does not make anyone secular.being impartial and being pro everyone is real secular. most political parties for their poll advantage and vote bank theory as it is called vouch for the minority and do nothing for them in reality.
I must cite an example here; on 15 th august this year in a city called mangalore(which shot to infamous glory thanks to the gossip mongering secular image needy and story hungry media focussing on an issue and blowing it out of proportions and creating a real bad image of the city to the extent that a minister from the central goverment in the most irresponsible way and totally uncalled for comment calling it as talibanisation of mangalore while the ground reality is totally different) anyways coming back to the main issue : on 15 th august 2009 two heads of slaughtered cows was found in the early hours of the day in a temple in the heart of the city and a temple as old as the city itself and sanctity of the highest order. this is one of the worst possible attacks on hinduism and the whole belief of cow being the most sacred animal. This clearly was the job of some miscreants obviously with some vested interests to disturb peace and security of the city. how many of u outside mangalore know this? very few...thanks to media... its happened to the majority community so why rise a hue and cry !!!! nobody bothers about majority... in contrast ... a girl from a minority community in a village near the city is requested by the college authorities not to wear the traditional attire to college news is all over the media...again thanks to the media.
the same media was here tarnishing the image of he city when some hooligans entered a pub which was running without licence and attacked people in there . the news flashed for a whopping 16 days. then followed a incident of a girl from the minority was taken to task for talking with some other guy allegedly by the people close to her father...media was again there tarnishing mangalore... but where the he** are they when such a shameful thing happens with the majority!!!!!
whenever there is a discussion on tv secular people bring up the issue of gujarat riots and media attacks the person who ha swon two terms as a chief minister despite all odds , when media predicted he s going to lose ,he still won witha whopping majority and he s by far statistically as well as technically the best chief minister of gujarat and any other state of India has ever produced and this is a fact. now why does media only show facts on gujarat ??? what preceeded is equally ghastly'godhra' but media is not keen as godhra happened to majority but gujarat the minority was affected .. in both scenarios it is utterly inhumane and both acts are to be condemned in the highest voice possible.
media brings up the issue of graham steins murder and other attacks on minority but the issue of caste and rreligion conversion is not talked about..why? talking about majority does not give u a secular image .it apparently makes you communal!!!! holy sh**
the whole idea behind this post is :\ BEING SECULAR IS NOT BEING PRO MINORITY .ITS BEING PRO PEOPLE . PEOPLE FROM ANY RELIGON,RACE,SEX,GEOGRAPHY. BEING PRO MINORITY AND BEING NOT SENSITIVE TOWARDS MAJORITY IS NOT SECULAR ITS PSEUDOSECULAR.PLEASE DO NOT INDULGE IN THIS.

judging an event

I always thought having a good personality 183 cms long and 95 kgs of human flesh was a plus point while dawning the role of a judge coz 1) competitors respect u 2) judge cannot be intimidated 3) noone would want to mess with a big guy!!!!

13/03/09 Kasturba Medical College, mangalore invited me as a judge for a event called TURNCOAT . Let me first explain what this is.. A person starts speaking for a given topic and then when the bell rings he talks against a given topic....

Me and dr. joseph were the two judges and we were all set to start the event but damn it we had no topics with us. Finally we just made some on the spot. and thus began the competition.
First topic POTATOES SHOULD BE ROUND IN SHAPE. . the person who came to speak on this(we actually pity him) , he had no clue wat to speak but then i should appreciate his effort in putting up with topic without any cribs.. good job adi

Second topic was DRINKING AND DRIVING SHOULD BE MIXED. Nice topic to speak on but the fellow who came to speak i guess was drunk!!!! he just could not speak. Joe got pissed , so did I.
Third topic was TEST CRICKET SHOULD BE BANNED. the girl who came to speak i must confess was cute... (she won the competition the moment she took the position on stage but then suddenly the soul of judge got up fom slumber and told me ar**hole , u re a judge dont act like a freak ) and then the JUDGE in me started listening . She was confident and made good sense but then my conscience felt that i was biased because of the beauty... so marks restrained ;) sorry gal sometimes being cute may earn negatives from a fair judge(fair does not refer to the complexion) :)

Fourth topic was VOTING IN ELECTIONS MUST BE MADE COMPULSORY. Here i have to make a confession. i was still in the hangover of the previous contestant that i just did not bother listening to this specimen... guy was utterly borin in next minute anyways so no confessions now.

Last topic of the day was GIRLS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DRINK IN BARS. Up came raj to speak and he started GIRLS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK IN BRA'S .... and gave the characteristic Raj pause for 5 seonds ..... The whole of audience was laughing their guts out when people started understanding that the bars to bra s was not a slip of the tongue but very much intentional... and then he spoke for the next 3 minutes and ran away with the first position....

CONCLUSION:A judge can have no idea of the competition which he is judging if the competitors taking part are so diverse that its not a tough thing to judge at all!!!! some competitor is always cut above the rest!!!
